Etymology: International Scientific Vocabulary madrepore + -ite
: a perforated or porous body that is situated at the distal end of the stone canal in echinoderms and that may be internal or inconspicuously buried in the body wall (as in holothurians) or may be a conspicuous convex plate on the dorsal side of the body (as in many starfishes)
